Monte Siao Porcelain
Despite modern technology, porcelain is still handmade by Brazilian artisans today. From the mold-making to the final touches, each piece is individually made and hand painted by the artisans who comprise the Monte Siao Community Project.
Economically, the project includes hundreds of families who are now able to earn their living from the making of porcelain. And, as an added benefit, tourism to the Monte Siao Region has increased enormously. This tourism, in turn, has allowed hundreds of other artisans to sell their own works.
Begun 50 years ago, Jose Sapocai, Jr. is in charge of this Community Project.
